What Is the Process of Dental Veneers?
Hi, I’m Dr Billy Choi, the principal dentist at Precision Dental here in Fortitude Valley.
Recently, I had a smile makeover consultation with a new patient, Charlotte from Kangaroo Point.
She was recommended to us by one of her friends, who recently had a smile makeover with us. She loves how natural and fresh her friend’s smile looks, which is the same effect she wants to achieve.
During our smile consultation, she said to me, “Hey Billy, what is the process of porcelain veneers? I got three young children, and they take up a lot of my time. I just need to make sure I have time for it.”
We are all very busy these days, so this is a very common question we get from our cosmetic patients. So I decided to record this short video sharing with you the process we go through for our porcelain veneers patients.
Our first step with a porcelain veneer case is pre-planning. We start by taking a few photos of the teeth and the face. We will also take a digital scanning of the teeth. Then we put that all together to make a 3D image of your teeth.
With your input on the smile you want to achieve, I’ll share all the data with our dental lab. The dental technician and I will use the Digital Smile Design software to design your perfect smile. Once I’m happy with the 3D design of the teeth, I can then present it to you on the screen.
When you are happy with the initial design, we ask the lab to print the models and create the provisional veneers. When you come back in, you can trial your smile, where we place them onto your teeth.
During the trial smile, you can see and feel what they’re going to look like. You can point out the areas that you’re not happy with, and we can make adjustments.
Each step of the way, we want you, our patients, to get involved and contribute to the design of their new smile.
You can wear the trial smile at the surgery, and then once we’ve discussed the designs, we can just take it off on the spot or you can wear it at home for a few days, and discuss it with your family and your friends, and get their feedback and see how they look.
The next appointment is the big day when we actually perform the preparation of the teeth. Once we have prepared your teeth, we will take more photos, and then at the end of the treatment, we’ll make you a new set of provisional veneers, so you don’t walk out with prepped teeth.
Once again, we will send all the information to the dental lab, who will now fabricate your final porcelain veneers.
When the veneers arrive, we will get you back to the clinic, remove the temporary veneers, and we will try on the permanent veneers. If you’re happy with the shape, size, shade of the teeth and the smile, we will permanently cement them on.
So that is a full process of porcelain veneers. Every step is done meticulously to ensure optimal results for you.
